Winning Lines

Winning Lines is a National Lottery game show that premiered on BBC One in the United Kingdom on 13 June 1999, originally hosted by Simon Mayo. The show challenges 49 contestants to answer general knowledge questions that have numerical answers. The game culminates in the "Wonderwall", with one finalist in a three-minute race against the clock to answer 20 questions with answers displayed across three giant projection screens. The more questions they get right, the better holiday they get, with a trip round the world in store if all 20 questions are answered correctly. From series 3 (9 June 2001 onwards) Phillip Schofield has presented instead of Mayo.

Starting from January 8, 2000, the show also had a short run on CBS in the United States. It was hosted by Dick Clark and directed by James Yukish . Rules were the same, save for the fact that the contestant played for cash instead of a holiday, the top prize being US$1 million. After dismal ratings, CBS canned the show before the end of its first season.
