Windsports

Windsports refer to wind powered recreation with very light equipment.

These activities may be regulated in some countries by the aviation/nautical authorities.

The activities can be;

  • Parachuting and base jumping - controlled descent with a nylon canopy
  • Paragliding - soaring with a nylon canopy
  • Hang_gliding - soaring with a rigid frame, nylon covered aircraft
  • Kiteboarding - a small paraglider type canopy with surfboard underneath (Kitesurfing)
  • Windsurfing and Sailing - a sail attached to a surfboard or vessel respectively
  • Ice sailing - a sail attached to a vessel with skates
  • parasailing - a paraglider towed by a vehicle in order to ascend
  • microlight - a hang glider with a powered prop (also see ultralight aircraft )
