William Hutchinson Murray was one of a group of active Scottish mountain climbers before World War 2. He wrote a book entitled Mountaineering In Scotland whilst spending time in a German Prisoner of War camp. He was part of the Api group in Nepal with John Tyson in 1953. Prior to that organised the 1951 reconnaissance of Mount Everest.
