Whitehawk is an area in East Brighton.
Until 1930, Whitewawk was a downland valley known as Whitehawk Bottom. This area was chosen to house families who lost their homes in the slum clearance. Until this time there was little in terms of population in Whitehawk Down aside from a pig farm. From 1931 Whitehawk received massive development for 40 years.
Of recent years, with little in the way of permanent employment, Whitehawk has faced problems of gang fights, drug busts, child abuse cases, and all the social problems that stem from high unemployment and low wage jobs in the area.
