West Vancouver is a district municipality, part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, located north of the City of Vancouver on Burrard Inlet and Howe Sound. It is located on the North Shore and is adjoined by the District of North Vancouver. Population (2001 census) 41,421.
The Area
West Vancouver is well known for its parks like Cypress Bowl Mountain Provincial Park, which offers scenic views of Howe Sound and the Greater Vancouver area.
Attractions
West Vancouver is home to many attractions, which includes Cypress Bowl Mountain, one of the venues for the 2010 Winter Olympics. While Ambleside Park is also popular spot for cyclists, Whytecliff Park is regarded as one of the best SCUBA diving spots in Western Canada.
Transportation
It takes between 10 (closest area) to 50 minutes to get to downtown Vancouver by West Vancouver's excellent Blue Bus, which run very frequently with various routes (see http://translink.bc.ca for routes). You can also possibly drive, walk, or bike across the Lion's Gate Bridge.
Also, you can get to Horseshoe Bay and take a ferry from there to Nanaimo, Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast.
Affluency
West Vancouver is home to some very large and expensive properties and houses. Recently, a house was sold for about C$ 20,000,000. West Vancouver's average house sells for over C$ 1,000,000. West Vancouver is often referred to as the most expensive part of Canada.
