Wayne Bridge

Wayne Bridge (born August 5, 1980) is an English football defender, who currently plays left back for Chelsea F.C. of the English Premier League.

Bridge began his professional career with Southampton F.C., where he broke through onto the club's first team in the 1998-1999 Premiership season. Bridge quickly became a regular and a star for the club, and was named the Southampton Player of the Year for the 2000-2001 season. After five years and 173 appearances with the Saints, Bridge was sold to Chelsea during the 2003 offseason for 7 million pounds. Bridge has continued his success with Chelsea, and is a regular starter for one of the best clubs in the world.

Bridge is also a frequent player for the English national team; after appearing for his country at various youth levels, Bridge made his debut with the full squad in February 2002. He quickly proved himself, and appeared twice as a substitute in the 2002 World Cup, although he did not appear at all in Euro 2004, facing stiff competition from Ashley Cole for the position..

During the Qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, he is given the role of playing in England's problematic left midfield role.
