Ward Beysen

Ward Beysen was a Belgian politician who started his political career in the Flemish Liberal party, the PVV, which was renamed VLD. He was born on 26 June1941 in Mortsel near Antwerp. He died by drowning himself on 14 January 2005 in the lake of Fort number 6 in Wilrijk south of Antwerp.

He was a member of the European Parliament for the VLD in Flanders. He became dissatisfied with the increasingly leftist policies of the VLD and left to start his own political party, the Liberaal Appèl , in 2003. After the death of its founder, the future of the party Liberaal Appèl is in doubt. Newspapers reported that it was being closed down on March 19, 2005, but the current party leader has refuted this. Liberaal Appèl is now known as "Liberaal Appèl Plus".
