Viktor Onopko

Viktor Onopko (Виктор Савельевич Онопко, born October 14, 1969 in Voroshilovgrad, USSR) is a Russian football defender, the all-time cap leader for the Russian national team.

In his club career that started in 1988, Onopko played for Shakhtar Donetsk, Spartak Moscow, Real Oviedo, Rayo Vallecano, and Alania Vladikavkaz. He currently plays for FC Saturn , having joined the club in 2004.

Although he was eligible to play for Ukraine, Onopko elected to play for Russia and has amassed 109 caps (plus four for the CIS), the first coming in 1992. He played in the 1994 and 2002 World Cups, as well as Euro 96. Onopko was named Russian footballer of the year in 1993 and 1994.
