Valerie Chacon

Valerie Chacon (died 1982) was the wife of world champion boxer Bobby Chacon.

Valerie had pleaded with her husband to stop boxing for years. Although being begged to stop, Bobby continued to fight. Valerie, in an attempt to convince her husband to finally leave boxing, travelled to Hawaii in 1982, getting herself and her husband jobs there. Unable to convince Bobby to join her there, however, she flew back to California. One night before one of his fights, she shot herself in the head, dying instantly. Bobby still fought on the next day and won the fight, dedicating it to her in a teary press conference after the fight was over.

After winning the world Jr. Lightweight title in December of 1982 by beating Rafael Limon, Bobby Chacon once again dedicated the victory to his late wife.
