U 137 was a Soviet Whiskey class submarine that ran aground only 10 km from Karlskrona on the East coast of Sweden October 27 1981. At the time the incident was generally seen as a proof of wide spread Soviet infiltration of the Swedish coastline. Today most experts believe the mishap was a mistake caused by incompetence and faulty technical equipment rather than an attempt to chart Swedish coastal defences.
