Turn Signals on a Land Raider is a web comic written and illustrated by Stephen A. Campbell. It focuses on a pair of Space Marine miniature figures named Kren and Frep from Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 miniatures wargame. Kren and Frep pilot a Land Raider troop transport in the plant themed Space Marine chapter known as The Emperor's Pointy Sticks.
The humor of the comic is based around the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the Warhammer 40k game. Characters fall victim to special rules, miniatures are hindered by their physical features and shortcomings, others are burdened with the disgrace of not being fully painted, the typical habits of players become a nuisance, and so-forth.
Recurring Characters
- Kren - Land Raider gunner and commander, bald with no helmet. Slightly sarcastic and pessimistic.
- Frep - Land Raider driver, originally had a Mark 7 helmet until his head was lost in a mishap involving the Unsupervised Game Store Kid, which was then replaced with an unpainted Mark 6 "beakie" helmet. Not as bright as he should be.
- Super Jackhammer Carrier Tank, aka: "Jack" - The machine spirit of Kren and Frep's Land Raider. Considerably patient in light of the mishaps he endures. He and the crew have "earned" the nickname "Fire Magnet" from their peers.
- Brother Harkon - When the 4th Edition Codex: Space Marines was released, the number of crew for a Land Raider was increased to three. Harkon got picked for third. Utterly serious and speaks mostly in imperial mantras (ie: "Death is the servant of the righteous!" "By His will we live!")
- Brother Sergent Magnolia - One of the squad leaders and apprently Kren and Frep's immedate commander. Trys to remain sprited and orderly in the myst of constant failure and misfourtune.
- Brother Captain Hemlock - Force commander of the army, wears terminator armor armed with lighting claws. Tries to be proud of his men, although he is at times dismayed by their lackluster performance.
- "Army Owner" - No name given, married with at least one son, face is never shown. Owner and creator of The Emperor's Pointy Sticks, he rarely wins due to poor game skills and/or poor luck. Is often distracted from finishing the paint jobs of his figures, much to their dismay.
- Unsupervised Game Store Kid - A young and clumsy boy whose parents never appear to be around. Has an unfortunate habit of picking up models without their owner's permission, which then often end up dropping to the floor. Is never shown past the elbows.
- Scout Squad Bamboo - The scouts of the army whom the owner often forgets to take home from the game store due to their hiding in cover.
- Veteran Trooper Smik - The army's designated chapter-color-scheme tester. 221 attempts at repainting has left him a barely man-shaped blob.
- Corporal Cavendish - The Left Sponson 6-Pounder Gunner from a model of a World War I era Mark V Tank owned by the game store, which was used as a proxy for Jack after an encounter with the Unsupervised Game Store Kid. Looks and acts like a stereotypical British soldier from the late 19th/early 20th century.
