Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine

Tsurugaoka is a shrine in Kamakura, Japan. It was constructed on the orders of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of the Kamakura Shogunate, who invited Hachiman, the God of warriors, to reside there and guard his government.

An avenue of cherry trees line the route to the shrine. The trees were also ordered by Yoritomo, as a prayer for the safe delivery of his first-born son.
