The fifth album released by New Zealand band Split Enz was their major commercial success. The songwriting of Neil Finn had matured rapidly, and both he and brother Tim Finn were now penning perfectly encapsulated pop songs. Eddie Rayner chimed in with a fine instrumental, as he would on later albums. True Colours was released in several differently coloured covers, and was also released as a limited edition laser-etched LP, one of the first albums in the world to be treated in this way.
The first single off the labum, I Got You reached number one in the charts in both New Zealand and Australia, and went into the top 20 in Britain and Canada.
