Trent Franks

Trent Franks (born June 19 1957), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 2003, representing the 2nd District of Arizona (map). He was born in Uravan, Colorado, a company town and now a Superfund site, was educated at Ottawa University and was a businessman before entering the House. He serves on the House Armed Services, Budget, and Small Business committees. In 2002, he was elected in a landslide over the Democrat, Randy Camacho. In 2004, he faced unusually strong primary competition from the more moderate Rick Murphy , but eventually defeated him, setting him on track for another term. He is attacked by some for a number of controverisal votes, one against expanding the Boys and Girls club, along with 18 other members, once against help for people with malaria, tuberculosis, and AIDS. His primary and general election competitors have also exploited a vote in favor of the Bush Administration's Medicare prescription drug proposal.
