Tony Blackplait

Tony Blackplait (April 24, 1963) is an early Estonian-American punk rock musician and member of Vennaskond , Felis Ultramarinus , The Un Concern , and Black September . He was born Tõnu Trubetsky, in Tallinn, Estonia, and lived in different cities including Turku, Paris and New York. He began his musical career in 1977 with a friend named Anti Pathique (a punk rock bass guitarist). The band continued rehearsing as The Flowers Of Romance, which was the name of an earlier punk rock band formed in 1976 (see The Flowers of Romance). Tony Blackplait also worked as a session musician, and began writing songs and made a "demos" with Teet Tibar , his Estonian friend.

In 1992, Finnish film director Pekka Karjalainen asked Blackplait if he would appear in Hysteria. He agreed and sang a song called "Riga My Love" in the movie. In 1993, Blackplait had his first Estonian Number 1 hit song, "Insener Garini Hüperboloid" with Vennaskond , one of his only songs written by someone else (Al Vainola ).

In 1999, Blackplait formed a new band called "The Flowers of Romance" which claims to be the "come-back" or "second era" of the 1976 group, in spite of not having any original members. The band's website alleges that the group is from Sealand.
