Thomas Ercildoun

Thomas of Ercildoun or "Thomas the Rhymer" (1220 - 1297) was a Scottish minstrel to whom is ascribed Sir Tristrem , a rhyme or story for recitation. He had a reputation for prophecy, and is reported to have foretold the death of Alexander III of Scotland, and various other events. He signed himself "Thomas Rymour de Ercieldoune". "Ercildoun" was Earlston , in the Scottish Borders.
