The Nation (Irish newspaper)

The Nation was a Irish nationalist newspaper, published in the 19th century, co-founded by Thomas Davis and Charles Gavan Duffy, its first editor. Both were leaders of the unsuccessful 1848 Young Ireland rebellion against British rule. John Mitchel, who later edited the United Irishmen newspaper, originally worked as The Nation's leader writer.

The Nation was published on Middle Abbey St. in Dublin. Today, Independent Newspapers publishes the top selling Sunday Independent and Irish Independent from the site. The Nation's principal rival, the Freeman's Journal, merged in 1924 with the Irish Independent.
