The Birth-Mark (1843) is a romantic short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It examines human ethics and beliefs. Georgiana, the beautiful woman in the story is flawed by a single hand shaped birthmark on her check. Her Husband, Alymer is a scientist and is revolted at the sight of the birthmark. Eventually the couple decides to try and remove the birthmark. This operation ends in tradgedy when Georgiana dies.
