For example, the term "technopolis" is used to describe an area, city or metropolis with a high-tech industry. A notable example would be San Jose, CA in the heart of the Silicon Valley, known for explosive growth electronic industry there. Another notable example would be Tokyo, Japan.
A number of technopolises, also known as technology parks have been deliberately sponsored in order to promote the development of hi-tech in a particular area and to repeat the success of the Silicon Valley. Examples are Sophia Antipolis, France and Astropolis , Lapland, Finland.
