Sven Butenschon (born March 22, 1976 in Itzehoe, Germany) is a German professional hockey defenceman. He currently plays for the New York Islanders. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Third Round, Fifty-seventh Overall. He has played for the New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Hamilton Bulldogs, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Syracuse Crunch, IHL Houston Aeros, Cleveland Lumberjacks and the Western Hockey League Brandon Wheat Kings .
