Slow match

The slow match is another term for the slow-burning fuse used by early gunpowder armies to light matchlock muskets. The fuse – attached to the lock of the musket – was usually a length of rope or cord that was coated in fat or oils to make it burn slowly and consistently for an extended period of time.
