SIVAM, the acronym for SIstema de Vigilância da AMazônia (or System for the Vigilance of the Amazon), is a complex radar surveillance system for use monitoring the rainforest, allegedly to curb the trafficking of illegal narcotics and to curb illegal logging or burning of the forest. U.S. military contractor Raytheon received an important and controversial contract to help build the SIVAM system, resulting in the EMBRAER R-99. Headquaters is located in Manaus, Brazil.
