Silverweed

Silverweed is a flowering perennial in the rose family Rosaceae. It is common throughout much of Europe, often in grassy habitats such as meadows and road-sides. It is a tough and pervasive plant with creeping, rooting runners and may become a problem weed in gardens. The leaves have fine, silky hairs, especially on the underside. These give the leaves the silver appearance from which the plant gets its name.

Silverweed has yellow flowers on long stalks with five petals. The root is edible and has been cultivated as a food crop.
