"Shiny Happy People" is a song by the band R.E.M. It appeared on their 1991 album Out of Time and was released as a single in the same year. The song features guest backing vocals by Kate Pierson of the B-52's. The song is an over-the-top, happy song, originally written as a joke by the band.

Although it was one of R.E.M.'s biggest hits, "Shiny Happy People" has never been popular with the band or with die hard fans. It was excluded from band's 2003 greatest hits album In Time.
