Scott Treleaven is a filmmaker, artist, writer and zine editor based in Toronto.
He first came to attention with his initial foray into filmmaking, Queercore: A Punk-u-mentary. The movie proved to be a decisive documentary of the queercore scene in the 1990s. Featuring live performances by Los Crudos and Pansy Division and interviews with Martin Sorrondeguy of Limp Wrist, Chris Freeman and Jon Ginoli of Pansy Division and Anita Smith of Fifth Column, the film offered audiences at film festivals across North America and Europe a rare look at the queerpunk scene.
After the success of his film, he began work on a zine which he called This Is The Salivation Army. It distinquished itself from other zines by virtue of being the first queer punk pagan zine. Other topics included industrial music, the occult, and filmmakers Kenneth Anger and Derek Jarman. Contributors have included artists and writers such as Black Sun Productions , G.B. Jones, Jason Louv , and many others.
In 2002 Treleaven presented his zine in film format, titled The Salivation Army. In 2004 a compendium of the zine was published in book format, with an additional foreword by Genesis P-Orridge. Since then, Scott has focussed on his artwork, a series of collages expanding on the topics first viewed in his zine. This work has shown in galleries throughout the U.S. and Canada.
