Sabrina, the Animated Series

Two animated series based off of the Archie Comics character Sabrina the Teenage Witch were produced by DiC Entertainment.

Sabrina, the Animated Series

The show was made in 1999. It is the spin-off to the live-action sitcom. This cartoon was completely different from the show itself. It featured our main character Sabrina except as a 12 year-old in Jr. High School just developing her powers. Her best friends are Chloe Flan and Harvey Dwight Kinkle. Chloe is the only mortal that knows that Sabrina is a witch, and Harvey is still Sabrina's secret crush. Together they have many adventures. Her rival is Gem Stone, the equivalent of Libby Chessler from the original show, and is incredibly rich. She still has the same aunts: Hilda and Zelda Spellman, except they are teenagers (and as a result look nothing like they do in the original comics), and she has an additional Uncle Quigley. In this show, even though Sabrina has her magic, she relies on a Spookie Jar to sometimes to help her cast spells.

The show ended with one season of 65 episodes. However, it wasn't the end for the show. It was revived in October 2002 as a Nickelodeon TV-Movie, which spun off the second series. The show's reruns were moved to Toon Disney in 2002, but have more recently popped up in syndication.

During the show's original broadcast, Archie Comics published a monthly comic book based off of the series. However, as a result of the publication of this new comic, their previous Sabrina comic book (based off of the sitcom) ended its run, but with a story that spun off into the first issue of the new comic. Sabrina's animated series-based comic ended at its 37th issue, concluding the story arc that had started in the last issue of the sitcom-based comic. With the next issue, the comic then went back to being based on the sitcom.

Sabrina's Secret Life

This show, first broadcast in syndication in 2003, was a spin-off to the previous series, but is actually more of a continuation, as it takes place one year after the events of the original series. Sabrina Spellman is 13 years old now and in Greendale Highschool. Chloe has moved away and Gem Stone attends a private school far away from Greendale. Sabrina's new best friends are Maritza and Nicole. She still holds a crush on her friend Harvey Kinkle. Now that she is 13 Sabrina's powers have also gotten stronger. Salem, Hilda, and Zelda still work hard to train Sabrina so she can learn how to use her magic well. They also still help her get out of tough scrapes when her spells often fail. Although she is half-mortal she is not the only one now at her school who is a witch. Her new nemesis Cassandra also attends Sabrina's Highschool and is a full witch. Both Sabrina and Cassandra not only attend Grenndale Highschool but a special Witch Academy School at night to practice their magic. Interestingly, this series' reruns are now on Toon Disney while the original series re-airs in syndication.
