Rough Trade Records

Rough Trade Records was a British record company. It was started by Geoff Travis as a West London record shop in 1976, but evolved in 1978 into a record label. Rough Trade specialized primarily in European post-punk and otherwise alternative rock of the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the late 1980s Rough Trade branched out by issuing an (eponymous) album by Lucinda Williams. Geoff Travis later launched Blanco y Negro Records in partnership with Warner Bros. Records. In the early nineties Rough Trade's fortunes began to fade and in the late nineties Zomba Records acquired the label, while the Rough trade catalogue was acquired by One Little Indian Records.
