The rose subfamily Rosoideae includes many shrubs and perennial herbs. Only a few are annual herbs.

The following classification is based on the study by Torsten Eriksson and others, published in the International Journal of Plant Science 164: 197-211 (2003; at link below).

Clade Sanpotina (new - no rank in ICBN)

  • tribus Sanguisorbeae
    • subtribus Sanguisorbinae
      • genera Acaena, Bencomia, Cliffortia, Dendriopoterium, Marcetella, Margyricarpus, Polylepis, Poterium, Sanguisorba, Sarcopoterium, Tetraglochin
    • subtribus Agrimoniinae
      • genera Agrimonia, Aremonia, Hagenia, Leucosidea, Spenceria
  • tribus Potentilleae
      • genera Potentilla
      • possibly the genera Comarella, Purpusia, Stellariopsis,
      • genera of subtribus Fragariinae
    • subtribus Fragariinae
      • genera Alchemilla (with Aphanes but probably also Lachemilla and Zygalchemilla)
      • Chamaerhodos, Comarum, Dasiphora (Pentaphylloides), Drymocallis, Fragaria,
      • Sibbaldia, Sibbaldiopsis.
      • some species, classified as Potentilla, may to be included here.
  • genus Potentilla : the clade Potentilla includes Argentina, Duchesnea, Horkelia, Ivesia, and probably Horkeliella. Potential candidates for inclusion are : the genera Comarella, Purpusia, and Stellariopsis.
