Robertson Scholarship

The Robertson Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship program created by Julian and Josie Robertson.

Each year, thirty students are chosen from among the applicants to UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. Half of the students in the program attend UNC, while the other half attend Duke. All receive full tuition; in addition, students at UNC receive room and living stipends.

The idea of the scholarship is that it allows students to participate in programs at the other school; students must take five classes and spend the second semester of the sophomore year living at the other school, among other requirements and offerings. This helps the individual students, but also increases collaboration between the schools (UNC and Duke have traditionally been rivals, especially in basketball).

Summer Programs

Students also take part in three summer enrichment programs. The summer following the freshman year is the Domestic Summer, in which students work with community service organizations in one of four locations in the southeastern United States: Atlanta, GA; Cleveland, MS; New Orleans, LA; or Whitesburg, KY .

The summer after the sophomore year is the International Summer, in which students again work with communtiy service organizations in one of three international locations: Argentina, South Africa, or Vietnam.

The third and final summer is the Exploration Summer. It is optional, and it allows students to prepare for post-college plans or pursue an interest they might not otherwise have an opportunity to pursue.
