Rikssvenska is an ambiguous Swedish language term with the alternative meanings:

1. Rikssvenska may denote Swedish as spoken and written in Sweden in contrast to the Finland-Swedish of Finland,
2. Rikssvenska may also denote the most prestigeous variety of Sveamål, i.e. the Swedish as spoken in the capital region of Stockholm–Uppsala.
3. Rikssvenska may also be used for Standard Swedish, i.e. (the written representation of) the language as it is taught to students of Swedish.

Formerly, speaking Rikssvenska was a requirement for newscasters and hosts in Swedish Radio and television broadcasting, but the last ten years have seen a change in this, allowing for more pluralism in broadcasted dialects.
