Real Oviedo

Real Oviedo are a Spanish football team from Oviedo in Asturias. Founded on March 14 1926, they currently play in the Tercera División.

They play in blue, with white shorts. Home stadium is the Nuevo Carlos Tartierre that seats 30,000 spectators.

Originally playing in the Primera división shortly after inception, the gap caused by the Civil War meant that the club could not push on from earlier successes. When league play was resumed in the forties, the team carried on in the first, but finally were relegated in 1951 to the second division. From then on, Oviedo have tended to hover between promotion and demotion, sometimes descending as low as the Segunda B in the 1980s. Promoted to the Primera división in 1988, they remained there till the 2001-02 season, finishing as high as sixth in the 1990-91 season. At the moment they play in the Spanish third division.

  • Segunda División norte champions 1951-52, and 1957-58.
  • League Cup winner (against Atlético de Madrid) in 1990-91.
