Poor man's copyright

Poor Man's Copyright is the method by which an author sends his own work to himself through the mail without opening the envelope in the hope that it will grant him legal protection by establishing a date at which the work was created. Use of this method will probably not hold up in a court, as it's extremely simple for the individual claiming to be the author to send himself an unsealed envelope and place a stolen script inside at a much later time.
