A political neologism is a newly coined term (neologism) for political use, to craft the public view of policy or social agenda in language that appeals most to a current political culture. See also euphemism. A rhetorical device is a class of political terms, for which there exists prior art.
The War on Terror, is a neologist term, which was originally advocated by GOP advisor Frank Luntz as a term to broadly cover the most number of potential military targets. The term successfully framed the political context such a way as to make the 2003 Invasion of Iraq appear related to attacks on Al Qaeda in 2001 Invasion of Afghanistan , and the possibility of future attacks (on Iran, Syria) appear likewise homologous.
