Plains Indians

The Plains Indians were a group of tribes who lived in a region of North America called The Great Plains. The Great Plains extended from the Mississippi river to the Rocky Mountains, and from the north border of Iowa to half way through Alberta. The main tribes comprising the Plains Indians were Dakota, Cheyenne, Sioux and Comanche.

These tribes survived on hunting. Buffalo was the primarily hunted animal. In fact these tribes kept moving following the migration of the buffaloes. Buffaloes were used for all the basic needs; food, clothing and shelter.

The Plains Indians believed in supernatural spirits and that these spirits controlled everything in their world including themselves, the animals as well as the stones.
