Peter Brimelow is a British-American financial journalist. Brimelow has been the editor of many publications, including the Financial Post, Forbes and National Review. Outside financial circles, he is best known for his controversial writings on immigration policy.
He has also been economic counsel to senator Orrin Hatch of Utah.
His books include The Wall Street Gurus: How You Can Profit from Investment Newsletters, Alien Nation: Common Sense About America's Immigration Disaster and The Worm In The Apple: How The Teacher Unions Are Destroying American Education and The Patriot Game: Canada and the Canadian Question Revisited . Alien Nation deals with immigration policy and the influx of illegal aliens as well as legal immigrants. The Worm in the Apple discusses the adverse effects of public education and teachers' unions on American youth.
Brimelow maintains that America's cultural homogeneity and way of life is threatened by unrestricted Third World immigration. Although he is nominally a neoconservative, Brimelow's views on immigration are welcomed by paleoconservatives. Brimelow was born 1947 in Warrington, Lancashire, England. He studied at the University of Sussex (BA, 1970) and received an MBA from Stanford University in 1972. Brimelow subsequently moved to Canada. After a brief stint as a securities analyst, he settled down in Toronto and became a business writer and editor at the Financial Post and MacLean 's magazine. From 1978 to 1980, he was an aide to senator Orrin Hatch in Washington D.C. In 1980 he moved to New York, working mainly for Barron's and Fortune. Brimelow was senior editor of Forbes Magazine from 1986 to 2002.
He was married to Maggy Laws Brimelow (1953-2004) and has two children.
