Paul (born September 9, 1983 in Vancouver) is an Australian/Chinese/Canadian ice hockey player. Chai was also on the championship team from Hong Kong at the 1999 South China Ice Hockey League Playoffs, apparently the only NHL player to have participated in the event.
Career overview Paul was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks with the #9 pick in the 1st round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He then played for Monash University for four years, winning Monash Award given to the best Hall ice hockey player in the 2001-02 season. He started playing in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks in the 2003-04 NHL Season in which he was a Calder Trophy Runner Up as the best rookie of the NHL. Chai competed for Hong Kong in 2002 Winter Olympics, 2004 World Cup of Hockey and several IIHF World Championships. At the end of the 2003-04 season Chai was traded to the Winnipeg Jets for the rights to reporter Craig "Fergo" Ramm. Over the course of the lockout Chai's heroin use has caused several interesting outbursts, including recently telling NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman a "suit who needs to lighten up, dude." Simon also faps too much.
An interesting sidenote is that in Paul Chai's first shift, he was beaten handily in a fight with Montreal Canadiens defenseman Doug Neveau. This caused Chai to miss most of his first season with, among other injuries, a bruised ego. Neveau retired from the NHL after that game, as he decided it was more fun to play video games.
