History records two military operations named Operation Guardian :
The 1948 British -backed attempt to spark an anti-Communist civil war in Yugoslavia . Although thousands of Croats had been trained in Italy and Germany for the task, the shadow army melted away after returning to Yugoslavia. See also: Operation Keelhaul .
