Norfolk Academy is an independent coeducational day school located in Norfolk, Virginia. Founded in 1728, it is the oldest secondary school in Virginia and one of the oldest in the United States. In 1966, the all-male Norfolk Academy merged with Country Day School for Girls in Virginia Beach, Virginia to create the current co-educational institution. Norfolk Academy has two libraries: the Cooper Library serves grades 1-6, and the Batten Library serves grades 7-12. Both libraries offer extensive print and digital collections to their users. Norfolk Academy remains one of the most prestigious private day schools on the east coast. Its current headmaster is Dennis G. Manning.
Community Service & Honor Norfolk Academy has a firm belief that honor and integrity are the most important things that one can have.
Community service is another important aspect of the school. Middle schoolers participate in the community service program in which they leave campus to better help and serve its community. This service helps students to understand the importance of community service not only while in school but for the rest of their life.
Honor is highly awarded and applauded and is looked upon as a much higher quality than that of grades (or any thing else for that matter). The school also has a honor code and honor court. The honor code is taken very seriously among both students and faculty. If one or any combination of these rules are broken one will be sent to honor court. At this so called "honor court" students review what event has taken place and then recommend to the teachers what actions should take place.
The school's mascot is the Bulldog.
