The New Jersey Naval Museum (NJNM) introduces state residents and visitors to New Jersey's Navy heritage and naval history in general. The star attraction here is the USS Ling (SS-297), a 312-foot long Balao-class submarine of World War II. The museum is located in Hackensack, and operated by the Submarine Memorial Association .

A guided tour takes visitors from bow to stern, exploring the Ling's equipment, quarters and weaponry, which included twenty-four torpedoes and two 5" deck guns (today's Ling sports one 4" gun) for handling military targets too small to warrant the expenditure of a torpedo.

Along with Ling, volunteers maintain Japanese Kaiten IIs, a WWII Japanese suicide torpedo, a German Seahund , a WWII German 2 man coastal defense submarine, and the newest addition to the Museum: A Vietnam War era PBR (Patrol Boat, River). The museum building itself contains a number of different and unique items ranging from a SEAL delivery vehicle to personal photos and effects.
