The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute is part of the US federal government, a division of the National Institutes of Health, which is tasked with allocating about 2.7 Billion in US tax revenue per year, FY 2004 estimate, to advancing the understanding of the (a) development and progression of disease, (b) diagnosis of disease, (c) treatment of disease, (d) disease prevention, (e) reduction of health care disparities within the US population and (f) advancing the effectiveness of the US medical system.
