Overview

Naperville North High School is located at Mill Street and Ogden Avenue (U.S. Highway 34) in the north-central part of Naperville. The building was constructed in 1970 comprising 152,347 square feet. Additions to the building were made in 1974, 1986 and 1992, increasing the size to the current (as of 2005) 449,665 square feet. Enrollment for the 2004-2005 academic year is estimated at 3,025 students. The faculty is comprised of 219 certified staff, 73% of whom hold Masters Degrees. The school day consists of eight periods, fifty minutes in length. Classes meet five days a week, over two semesters, covering a total of 36 weeks. NNHS is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Illinois State Department of Education.

Typically 96-97% of graduating Naperville North seniors continue on to college. 100% of each class takes the ACT exam; for the Naperville North class of 2003, the average composite score was 24.5 while the national average for all students taking the exam was 20.8.

From the time of its construction until the 1992-1993 academic year, Naperville North was the only high school in its district to have a swimming pool. Thus Naperville Central High School students who took Physical Education courses in swimming or desired to compete in swimming and/or diving would be bused from Naperville Central to Naperville North. Unfortunately competitive swimming events can no longer be held in the pool as it is not deep enough at the shallow end to meet state standards.

Sports

The school mascot is the Huskies. Naperville North is a member of the DuPage Valley Conference, competing against seven other area high schools in 21 sports and three non-athletic competitions.

Other Competitive Organizations

The State Math Team at Naperville North has been the DuPage Valley Conference champions for 27 consecutive years and were Illinois state champions 10 of the last 12 years. The JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society) Team in 2005 placed second in the region in Varsity competition and first in Junior Varsity. The school also is host to a strong Certamen (a no-holds barred Latin academic bowl) team; the defending Illinois State Champion Chess Team; the Northern Lights, a "winter guard" flag corps; and the Marching Huskies marching band, who placed sixth in the state championship in 2004.
