Mursili I

(Redirected from Mursilis I)

Mursili I (also spelled Murshili) was a king of the Hittites (c.1620 - c.1595 BC), and was the grandson of his predecessor, Hattusili I.

While few details of his reign are known, he is credited with a campaign in northern Syria which involved the destruction of Aleppo and the sack of Babylon. The latter act ended the rule of the descendants of Hammurabi in that city.

When Mursilis returned to his kingdom, he was assassinated by his brother-in-law, who succeeded him as king Hantili I .
