Mary Durack

Dame Mary Durack (born February 20 1913, died December 16 1994) was an accomplished Australian author and historian.

Born in Adelaide, South Australia, her books include Kings in Grass Castles, To Ride a Fine Horse, Sons in the Saddle and Swan River Saga: Life of Early Pioneer Eliza Shaw.

On December 2 1938 she married Captain Horace Clive Miller OBE (died 1980). They had six children.

On December 31 1977, she was appointed Order of the British Empire, Dame Commander, for her services to literature. In acknowledgment of her accomplishments she was also honoured with an AC 1989 and OBE in 1966.
