Mark Malloch Brown

Mark Malloch Brown (born 1953), a British official, is chief of staff to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, appointed 3 January 2005. He is a former journalist, economist and communications consultant.

As the administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) since 1999, Malloch Brown ranked No 3 in the UN system. He is also the Chair of the United Nations Development Group . He was a vice-president and external affairs spokesman for the World Bank from 1994 until 1999, and had worked earlier for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

He was a political editor at The Economist between 1977 and 1979, then founded and served as editor for the Economist Development Report , followed by working as the lead international partner in the Sawyer-Miller Group from 1996 through 1994.

He was received a First Class Honours Degree in History from Magdalene College, Cambridge and a Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan.
