Mariano Paredes y Arrillaga was an ultraconservative Mexican general and president, born in Mexico City in 1797; died in September, 1849. He became president in 1846, at the time of the Mexican-American War. He was overthrown by Antonio López de Santa Anna and went into exile in 1847.
