Lutz Long

Lutz Long (1930-1943) is an German Olympic athlete who was posthumously awarded the Pierre de Coubertin medal for his sportmanship at the 1936 Summer Olympics. While he is often mentioned in articles about Jesse Owens, he has essentially been reduced to a footnote of history.

Long was wounded when fighting in Sicily and died in an English military hospital.
