Luizianne Lins is the mayor of Fortaleza, the fifth largest city in Brazil.

She is a single parent. In 2003 she visited Britain, and spoke in Glasgow at a rally of the Scottish Socialist Party, and in London at a public event organised by the paper Socialist Resistance.

In 2004 she was surprisingly elected as mayor of Fortaleza. She is a member of the PT, but part of a dissident wing opposed to the current policies of Lula's government. She was not the candidate of the leadership of the PT, they backed the PCdoB candidate.

Will she reach some accommodation with Lula's government? Or will her and her associates in Fortaleza continue their opposition, which will probably lead to them being expelled from the PT?
