Longwood University is located in Farmville, Virginia. It was founded in 1839, but it did not become a university until July 1, 2002. It has an undergraduate enrollment of about 4,300 students. This is about half of the population of Farmville.

Longwood University was cited recently as one of the nation's best college buys in America's 100 Best College Buys, a national publication that profiles schools that are the highest rated academically but have the lowest annual costs.
