Note: This list includes Unitarians and Universalists, which are groups that existed long before the modern era of Unitarian Universalism began with the merger of the two denominations in 1961. In particular it must be noted that the cohort of prominent Unitarians from the American colonial and early national eras would almost certainly not subscribe to Universalism; these people were essentially radical Protestant Christians.
