Laotian classical music

Lao sep Nyai music is made of the Khim, So, Khaen, flute and percussion. The percussion concist of leather drums and finger cymbals that keep the beat to the piece being performed. An Ensemble includes Ranads(Marimbas that come in treble, alto and tenor ranges). Treble and alto So's(Two string gut fiddles) Khaen(Bambo Mouth Organ) and the Khim(Hammered Dulcimer with bronze strings). The ensemble performes for various holidays and weddings. They also accompany dances such as those from the Ramayana, the Indian epic brought over from India via Cambodia.
